Another week, another batch of horror films to talk about. Up first is The Pact 2. Now I never saw The Pact so that hurts a little because I didn’t know anything about the bad guy or Caity Lotz’s character. Although if I’m being honest, I probably wouldn’t have liked this more or less if I had seen the first film. This is one of those “horror” movies that I describe as “Nothing wrong nor nothing right”. There’s nothing exactly wrong with it, but there’s nothing new, original, or groundbreaking about it either. You watch it, it’s not awful, but it’s not all that entertaining either. I watch a lot of horror movies so this comes across as by the numbers to me. A woman starts seeing visions. She meets up with a woman who knows the truth/story behind the killer and the story unfold. I guess the “twist” is their attempt at being creative, but by the time you find out who the bad guy is, do you care? Although I do like Patrick Fischler and his FBI agent is pretty solid.
Next we have Mutant World. This film has one huge positive, it has Kim Coates in it (although briefly). But any happy feels you have seeing Kim Coates on the box go away when you see Ashanti in it. Not only is she in it, she plays a “tough” preacher type character who I laughed at. I will give the movie credit for attempting a new idea for zombies. This time the zombies are more like mutants, humans effected by a meteor that hit Earth. I hadn’t seen that before, but unfortunately that’s the only thing the film has going for itself. Other than that, it’s just another post-apocalyptic film with bad acting, bad action and bad visual effects. I’m hoping it was made for TV because the production value looks to be about TV levels. Original premise and Kim Coates can’t save it from being yet another zombie type film you forget about after watching it.
Speaking of awful zombie films, last we have Fight of the Living Dead. The title sounds cool, but don’t be fooled. I think this was some YouTube thing and it should have stayed there. It starts out like a video game and doesn’t get any better. The effects are terrible. I’ve seen higher production value on YouTube. The acting is even worse. I wanted all the characters to be killed quickly. That’s the only positive, it’s only 51 minutes long. It’s like 3 “episodes” of something you’d watch online except if I started watching it online, I would have given up after a few minutes. The zombies look bad, but the true killer is the terrible acting. Don’t let the title convince you to see this even on YouTube.
