Out now are three of the most random documentaries you can write about in one article. First is Kink presented by James Franco. It’s about, well kinky sex and BDSM. It’s a behind the scenes look at the happenings of Kink.com with lots of leather and fetishes and, well, use your imagination. If you think 50 Shades of Grey is great literature, this isn’t for you. There’s lot of man on man action, some woman on woman, multiple men on woman, tight leather, fantasy role-playing and all that stuff. I’m not really into all that so it didn’t do much for me, but hey, if that floats your boat check it out.
Next is Wrestling with Satan. This documentary talks about the rise, fall and resurrection of the Christian Wrestling Federation. Yeah, I’m as shocked as you that it existed. I like wrestling. I grew up watching it. Heck, one of the members of IWM2$ is a former independent wrestler himself. The inside look at wrestling part of the film is very interesting especially for those who think it’s all WWE and private planes and money. But then there’s the religious side of it. I’m not a religious person and wouldn’t want to hear people preaching in between fights, but some do. I did like seeing AJ Styles and Dr. Death Steve Williams in it. Just like every other religious organization all the money seems to be embezzled and some guys leave and the head of it and his wife live like kings. If you want to see a better behind the scenes wrestling documentary, watch Paul Hough’s The Backyard.
Last is Duane Michals: The Man Who Invented Himself. I had no idea who he was until watching the film. He seems pretty out there, but also uber talented. His photography is pretty amazing, but he’s definitely eccentric. His portraits are beautiful and stylistic and he tells a story with his images and words. He’s a natural born storyteller and uses lighting perfectly. I’m pretty jealous of his talent to be honest. He’s photographed celebrities and well known people, but also realistic portraits with amazing angles. If you like photography, check it out.
