Athena Voltaire Compendium

Main Plot Points:

  • In the knuckle-dusting style of classic pulp adventure comes Athena Voltaire, the beautiful globetrotting aviatrix who takes on Nazis, zombies, and unspeakable occult creatures!
  • This whopping tome rescripts and remasters Athena’s adventures from the long-running, Eisner-nominated comic by Steve Bryant.

What We Thought:

  • Fun, clean romp through 1930s history, with a healthy dose of the paranormal. It’s easy to imagine Athena Voltaire knocking back drinks with Indiana Jones in some out-of-the-way dive bar, exchanging war stories.
  • And what stories those would be! Athena faces all manner of monsters with aplomb, delving into various world mythologies which Steve Bryant handles in a really cool way.
  • The art is pretty, if not spectacular. The pacing is a little off and takes a bit of the dramatic tension out of the action sequences, but dialog mostly makes up for it.
  • Loved the extra stuff here, especially the pinups. Gorgeous collection for any fan of globe-trotting adventure, and for fans of Athena Voltaire especially!
